Ship's Notice
"This website serves no practical purpose whatsoever. Much like its author's dead-reckoning, it wanders without a clear destination. But then again, neither does your Instagram feed — and you check that six times before breakfast. At least here, the scenery is better, the stories are real, and someone always opens the champagne."
— From the Helm of Hazy Lady, Somewhere Upwind
Bought on the 29th of May 2024 — the day the bank account began its steady decline. She has been refitted ever since, never on dry land for long, because the refit happens between passages, not instead of them. The full logbook tracks every trip: where she's been, how long it took, and whether the weather had the decency to cooperate. Mostly it did not.
Open the Logbook → Ship's LogDaily entries from the helm of Hazy Lady. Wind, weather, distances, and whatever else seemed worth writing down at the time.
Browse entries →From port to port. With or without a plan — mostly without. A Bavaria 340 has opinions about the wind; we learned to listen.
Hull, rigging, engine, electrics — all attended to between passages, never instead of them. A 1988 Bavaria is never quite finished; she just keeps sailing while you catch up. The champagne is for the small victories, of which there are many.
29 May 2024 · The Day It All Began
"Bought on the 29th of May 2024 — the day the bank account started its graceful slide. She has been refitted ever since, but never hauled out for long: the work happens between passages, not instead of them. The refit may never end. The logbook, mercifully, has already begun."

"Juliette, an X 4³, was pointed at a series of inflatable triangles on the IJsselmeer and asked to go round them faster than everyone else. The full dashboard — tracks, speeds and all the numbers nobody asked for — has been lovingly plotted. Where she finished is between her and the wind."

"It takes genuine skill to spend an entire weekend on the water and arrive home with nothing to show for it except a better understanding of tides and a slight sunburn. This site documents that skill."
